Week 17 NFL Picks

NFL: Preseason-Cincinnati Bengals at Atlanta Falcons

Unfortunately I procrastinated the last regular season picks so I’m going for the late games this week:

Detroit @ Green Bay (Packers -6.5): Aaron Rodgers at home.

Carolina @ Atlanta (Falcons): Matt Ryan at home.

St. Louis @ Seattle (Rams +12.5): I’m hoping the Rams can slow down the Seahawks enough to cover.

Arizona @ San Francisco (Cardinals +6.5): This pick hurts but with Harbaugh probably going to Michigan and seeing the 49ers fall to San Diego I have no faith in this 49er team regardless of home field advantage.

Oakland @ Denver (Broncos -14): I hate spreads this big but last time these two teams played it was 41-17. Broncos 7-0 at home, Raiders 0-7 on the road. I smell a route.

Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh (Bengals +3.5): There is something about this Bengals team.

Week 16 NFL Picks

The .500 streak continues. Last couple weeks of the season have already shown a few crazy things happening (See Redskins over Philly). Off to the picks!

Detroit @ Chicago (Lions -8.5): I mean how much disarray can Chicago be in that they revert to Jimmy Clausen? Maybe Jay Cutler will actually show some emotion today on the sideline, I’d love to see him smile after Clausen throws interception number 3.

Green Bay @ Tampa Bay (Bucs +11.5): I’m really going out on a limb here but Green Bay isn’t always a great road team and while Tampa Bay is awful they are still playing hard. Pack should win but closer than you think.

Buffalo @ Oakland (Bills -6): The Raiders were brought back to reality last week so I expect their awfulness to continue.

New England @ New York (Jets +10.5): I’m going against my mantra of picking Tom Brady and the Patriots but I think the Jets give Rex a nice going away present.

Kansas City @ Pittsburgh: (Chiefs +3): Kansas City is underrated and I think could do big things.

Baltimore @ Houston: (Ravens -5.5): One of those lines that looks good but I won’t be shocked if the Ravens win by 4.

Week 15 NFL Picks

One game over .500 after all the picks last week so lets go back to the normal 6 games:

Miami @ New England (Patriots -7.5): I refuse to not pick the Patriots.

Green Bay @ Buffalo (Packers -3): I get that the Bills D is good but have you seen Aaron Rodgers lately?

Washington @ New York (Giants -6.5): Only because I think I’m currently the 3rd string QB for Washington at this point.

Oakland @ Kansas City (Raiders +10): Why not, they beat the 49ers they should be able to lose by 9 or less against the Chiefs.

Tampa Bay @ Carolina (Panthers -3.5): This division is awful.

Jacksonville @ Baltimore (Jaguars +14.5): That is a massive spread and I feel like maybe the Jags can keep it close.

Week 14 NFL Picks

3-3 the trend continues.┬áSo to break it up I’m picking every game for Sunday and Monday!

New York @ Tennessee (Titans +1.5):Giants 1-5 on the road, Titans 1-4 at home does anybody really win in this case?.

Houston @ Jacksonville ( Texans -5.5): Can JJ Watt score the touchdown that covers the spread?

Carolina @ New Orleans (Saints -9): The NFC South is so god awful why can’t the Saints blow it up in their own dome?

Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati (Bengals -3): I have no clue… both teams are inconsistent.

St. Louis @ Washington (Rams -3): I’ll take the Rams on the road just because I love hating on the Redskins.

New York @ Minnesota (Vikings -5): The Jets are just bad.. they put together a decent game last week and still lost, I don’t seem much left in this team.

Baltimore @ Miami (Ravens +3): These two teams are pretty even and its coming down to the wire for Wild Card position… I’m taking Flacco over Tannehill.

Tampa Bay @ Detroit (Lions -10): The Lions destroyed the Bears on Thanksgiving after being down… Tampa can’t hang with this offense

Buffalo @ Denver (Bills +10): Denver should win and could definitely win by more than 10 but I like the Bills defense this year.

Kansas City @ Arizona (Chiefs -2): I hope this isn’t the Chiefs team that showed up against Oakland.

Indianapolis @ Cleveland (Colts -3): Andrew Luck is good and Brian Hoyer is not.

San Francisco @ Oakland (Raiders +8.5): I don’t believe in the 49ers offense right now and that makes me sad.

Seattle @ Philadelphia (Eagles -1): Should be the game of the week with both teams coming off solid Thanksgiving Day wins. I’m taking the home team/east coast advantage.

New England @ San Diego (Patriots -3.5): Don’t care if they lost last week, staying with the Patriots should make people money.

MONDAY NIGHT: Atlanta @ Green Bay (Packers -13): This spread is ridiculous but I don’t care, the Packers are legit and the Falcons are awful on the road. Everybody is awful playing in Green Bay.

ACC/Big 10 Challenge Results Irrelevant for ACC

The ACC/Big 10 Challenge concluded its 16th season Wednesday night with the Big 10 winning the series 8-6. People want to make a big deal because the ACC hasn’t won the match up since 2008 (The ACC won the first 10 years in a row and haven’t won since). Admittedly it is a disappointing stat for the ACC but overall last night helped illustrate that the ceiling is higher for the ACC and the ACC big dogs are clearly better than the Big 10 this season.

Look at the four match ups that pitted ranked teams against ranked teams:

#4 Duke 80- #2 Wisconsin 70 (Homer highlight but Duke’s 3 freshmen looked great in a tough environment against a quality opponent)

#7 UVA 76 #21 Maryland 65: I love this result because I hate Maryland and UVA went into College Park and took it to the Terps. Good riddance, enjoy the Big 10 ya jobbers.

#15 Miami 70 #24 Illinois 61

#5 Louisville 64 #14 Ohio St 55

4-0 in ranked match ups with 2 wins coming on the road in tough environments. UNC was really the only big disappointment as Iowa came to Chapel Hill and came away with the upset. The biggest disappointment was that games between teams like Virginia Tech/Penn St. actually count towards this event. Notre Dame also gave the ACC a lift upsetting Michigan St at Michigan St in the final seconds.

I expect the ACC to have between 5 and 6 teams ranked in the top 25 throughout the season with a great showing in this upcoming NCAA tournament. ACC fans can also take solace in the fact that while they didn’t win this year they still lead the overall record at 94-75. Now the real question is whether or not any of these teams can beat Kentucky.
